MARC BOLAN'S ROCK SHRINE - THE BOLAN TREE

Since Marc Bolan's death there in 1977 the Sycamore Tree in Barnes (Putney) London has become a place of pilgrimage for Bolan fans from around the world! It has become Marc Bolan's Rock Shrine.

Because of it's importance in Rock History, in 1995 it was visited for an article in a Glossy Monthly Magazine. This article truthfully described the site as "More shit-hole than shrine" because of the litter & general air of neglect at the site.

Then in 1998 - the press reported that the 'Bolan Tree', had "less than three years" before it may have to be felled!

BACKGROUND TO TAG

The T-Rex Action Group (TAG) in 1999, by current secretary Fee Warner.

In 2000 TAG became the legal leaseholders of the 'Bolan Tree' site, Gipsy Lane/Queen's Ride, Barnes, London. The in perpetuity lease includes Full Ownership & Responsibility for the 'Bolan Tree'.

WORK DONE BY TAG

Since then, TAG has laid steps from the PRS Memorial to the 'Bolan Tree' with a viewing platform around the tree so visitors do not risk injury by standing on the pavement less & narrow road by the tree. TAG has also erected a notice board for messages & saved the 'Bolan Tree' from felling.

In 2002 Rolan Bolan unveiled a Bronze Bust of his father at the site to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Bolan's death. This Bronze was paid for personally by Fee Warner.

TAG'S 2005 PROJECT

TAG's latest project was to install plaques for the four members of T-Rex who like Marc, have passed over. They are: Steve Peregrin Took; Steve Currie; Mickey Finn & Dino Dines, plus one for the 'fifth member of T-Rex' - June Bolan (nee Child). These plaques were installed in September 2005 with a small ceremony attended by relatives and friends including June's daughter Illona.
