FUND RAISING WALL PLAQUE
 | | Last year we commissioned a unique Fund Raising Wall Plaque. We are currently discussing with the manufacturer various 'Finish' options. The manufacturer will be making one of each of the finishes we decide upon. We will then be able to photograph them and upload the images.
They will be Limited Edition. Each Individually Numbered with a matching Certificate of Authenticity. Members will be notified when they are ready at least two weeks before the plaques are listed on the Free Site for the General Public. Numbers will be allocated on a 'first-come-first-served-basis'. To make it fair for those who want to pay by Cash/Cheque/P.O./Bank Transfer/etc, the numbers will be allocated when you Email us your order to us. We will then await your payment before despatch. We have set up a Rose Wall Plaque Page in the Members Site ready to add the full details, prior to going on general sale.
It is intended that these plaques will complete the fund raising ... So we have contacted a Reputable Rose Grower to Commission Marc's Unique Rose and will keep you up to date Here |

We need to raise £2,000 & although this seems like a lot of money this is to have a unique 'cultivar' never before seen. For a Professional Rose Grower to take on the project, he/she will be investing countless hours on the project. It requires two chosen rose varieties. The pollen has to be collected by hand. Then the flowers are hand pollinated (with a rabbit's tail) and then kept in a sealed greenhouse (to prevent contamination by insects, which may bring in pollen from another rose bush). These rose bushes then have to flower and go to seed. The seeds have to be collected by hand from the 'rose hips'. They can then be sown, but it is not until the following year when the dozens, or possible a hundred or more Rose Bushes flower that the success or failure of the cross-pollination can be seen.
The new 'cultivars' are therefore produced by 'random' cross-pollination, but many will not be suitable. The head for example may be too heavy for the stalk. Alternatively, the flower might look good, but not be scented at all (and we think Marc would like a scented rose). On the other hand, of course all the results of the cross fertilization may not have the 'colour mix' hoped for. Worse still is if there is a wonderful cross, which when submitted turns out not to be unique, but an 'old rose' which is registered, even if it is no longer grown much.
To sum up, there will be a lot of time, work and indeed equipment needed to grow a rose which is worthy of becoming The Bolan Rose and it will not happen without YOUR help.

NOTE: This should not be confused with the 'name-a-rose' schemes (or scams) which are similar to the 'name-a-star' scams where an existing rose bush is named for you at a cost of £40-50. These roses are an existing variety and are only 'named' for your in THEIR ROSE GARDEN and NOT on any OFFICIAL RECORDS. Neither are they a NEW & UNIQUE ROSE VARIETY!
